$80G Sheriff's Office drug-enforcement grant renewed

DOVER - The Strafford County Sheriff's Office announced today that an $80,000 Granite Shield grant award to be used to combat drug abuse has been renewed.

Last year's drug enforcement grant was part of a statewide effort to combat the opioid addiction crisis that has gripped Strafford County. The initiative resulted in a large amount of drug interdiction and recovery of weapons as well as 69 arrests.

Among the weapons recovered were an AR-15, Shotgun, Mac-11, two 9mm pistols, .a 40 cal handgun, and a .357 revolver

Drugs seized included cocaine, crack, fentanyl, carfentanyl, Suboxone, Methamphetamine, Marijuana, Pills, Butane Honey Oil and LSD.

In a statement, Strafford County officials said they were pleased to have been awarded another Law Enforcement Opioid Abuse Reduction Initiative Grant for the upcoming year.

"We are very pleased with the results of our joint task force since its inception," said Sheriff David Dubois. "Collaboration is a foundation for many activities in Strafford County government. The collective effort of law enforcement throughout the county with this task force has assisted greatly in our multifaceted response to the opioid epidemic we are addressing here in this county and throughout our state."
