With everything from a foot of snow to hurricane force winds possible tomorrow afternoon, there's a distinct possibility that power outages could occur - and with that - frozen pipes.

But a local plumber says the best way to keep those pipes from freezing and ultimately bursting is to simply run your water.

"Running water will not freeze," said Wallace Roy of Garrison City Plumbing LLC of Dover.

He said those on city water have less to worry about, but even they should run a trickle of water if they lose power and the house goes cold.

Of course, everyone should have a secondary source of heat, but Roy says a better alternative is to have a generator in place that can keep your heat and water running even if a power outage occurs.

As of today Accuweather forecasts predict 6 to 9 inches of snow and gusting winds of up to 45 mph. The storm watch begins Thursday at 7 a.m. and runs till noon on Friday.
