SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - State Police say three escapees from the Long Creek Detention Center, including two teens from Acton and Sanford, are back in custody after the stolen SUV they were in crashed into a snowbank and rolled over after a short chase with troopers in South Portland.

The SUV was stolen early Friday morning in Carrabassett Valley and was spotted along the turnpike in Falmouth at midmorning.

Troopers attempted to stop the SUV after it went through the Maine Mall exit, but it speeded away.

Troopers performed a PIT maneuver to prevent the suspect vehicle from traveling into a heavily populated area, which brought the chase to an end.

In addition to the stolen SUV, cash, wine and other items were taken from the Stratton Brook Huts, where the teens were staying with Long Creek staffers overnight.

The Nissan SUV was stolen from a residence near the hut's trailhead. The driver has been identified as 19-year-old Jesse James Ramsdell of Acton, while the two passengers were Christopher Harmon, 18, of Sanford, and Jonathan Vasselian, 18, of Sumner.

All three were charged with unauthorized use of property and were taken to the Cumberland County jail. Additional charges from Carrabassett Valley Police are likely.

The three were all wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were not injured.
