MILTON - The Milton Crossings storefront between Dunkin' Donuts and Dollar General will finally be filled after Community Partners of Rochester agreed recently to lease the space.

Community Partners will run a day program for adults with disabilities that caters to clients who live in the Milton/Wakefield/Farmington area, said Community Partners grants coordinator Pamela Becker on Monday.

"We had been bringing them back and forth to Rochester," Becker said, "so this just makes sense to have it closer to them."

Community Partners, which contracts through the state, will field case managers at the Milton Crossings offices, which are currently being modified to suit the organization's needs.

Becker said their clients will be at the office for daily enrichment and instruction and will often then fan out into the community where case managers will seek to find them employment opportunities.

"We try to be supportive of their employment," Becker said. "We will support the employers who reach out."

Becker said there also may be volunteering activities they can find that enrich their clients as well and keep them active in the community.

She said some 15 to 20 adults with disabilities will be serviced from their offices at Milton Crossing with a 3-1 ratio of clients to staff.

Becker said time will be split between being out in the community and working on soft job skills at the offices.

She expects their move to be complete sometime in April.

The spot had originally been targeted for a Subway sandwich shop but that deal fell through soon after the mini-mall opened.
