After crash-riddled storm last week, drivers slow down, or just stay home

It was once bitten, twice wise for area drivers as today's second snowstorm of the season proved not nearly as daunting as a dusting a week ago that prompted a spate of minor fender benders and spinout accidents across the region.

"We've had nothing, just one reported accident that when we got there it was gone," said Rochester Police Capt. Gary Boudreau today.

In Milton, Police Chief Richard Krauss said likewise.

"People are slowing down and traffic is very light," he added, with no accidents as yet reported.

It was a far different scene last Monday as several fender benders, including a hit and run occurred in Lebanon and some 14 accidents, including a rollover, kept Rochester Police busy.

"People seem to be traveling with caution," Boudreau said today.

Meanwhile, Lebanon road crews were out in force shortly after midnight, with Road Commissioner Tom Torno adding that with snow turning to rain around 9 a.m., crews were taking a final scrape before putting sand down on town roads.

As usual steep hills on roads in West Lebanon like Prospect Hill and Milton Mills roads were proving the most difficult for crews to keep safe for travel, however, Torno said even those roads were in pretty good shape if people just use caution.

Most of the precip, which has changed to rain, should be winding down around noon, according to accuweather.com.

Area schools were all canceled due to the storm.
