City man picked up in connection with violent Lafayette St. assault

ROCHESTER - A Lafayette Street man faces arraignment today on a host of charges stemming from his alleged assault of another Lafayette Street man earlier this month.

Matthew J. Macleod, 34, of 8A Lafayette St., has been held without bail since Friday when he was taken into custody on assault charges said to have occurred back on Dec. 15.

The victim, who suffered bruising to his face and neck, didn't report the assault until Dec. 18, however, which is when an investigation into the case began, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said today.

Thomas said the two men are known to each other and the public is not at risk.

Macleod was charged with felony burglary with a firearm, felony being in possession of a dangerous weapon, felony assault, strangulation; felony criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, simple assault, bench warrant from Rochester Circuit Court, and felony in possession of dangerous weapon (possession of a firearm at time of arrest).

Rochester Police Officers picked up Macleod when he was spotted in a vehicle on Lafayette Street around 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Thomas said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible, adding that Macleod is also expected to be indicted on separate drug charges next month.
