ROCHESTER - A Rochester man injured when he was struck by a car on Saturday remains at Portsmouth Regional Hospital today.

A hospital spokesperson this morning said 51-year-old Theodore Blackey was conscious and stable. No other information was being released per family instructions, the spokesperson said.

Blackey suffered a head injury, cuts and bruises when witnesses say he was struck while walking in a crosswalk on Columbus Avenue in the area of Winter Street around 11:40 a.m.

He was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital and later to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Police responded to the area and interviewed witnesses who said Blackey was walking in the crosswalk when he was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu heading north on Columbus Avenue after exiting Walgreens.

The driver was identified as Ronald Nichols, 75, of Rochester. Police said a driver's side mirror from the Chevrolet was found damaged near where Blackey was struck.

Rochester Police Capt. Gary Boudreau said today no charges have been filed, but the incident is still under investigation. Rochester Police are asking anyone who may have information about the accident call Officer Frank Porfido at 330-7128.
