City's recount of Keno vote now a sure bet
Staff reports 8 a.m. ROCHESTER - As suggested might happen during Wednesday's City Council meeting, several requests for recounts of Tuesday's Keno vote emerged on Thursday. Rochester Mayor Caroline McCarley said on Wednesday she would be in favor of a recount if any residents requested it. Among those requesting a recount was mayoral candidate Matt Scruton, a critic of the gambling game, which is solely reserved for taverns and bars. Rochester voters passed the Keno measure by a single vote, 1,036-1,035. Keno now makes for a second recount the city has to perform, in addition to Sam A Oliver's request for recount in his Ward 5 Seat B contest against Robert W. Gates, a race Oliver lost by just five votes. Details of when and where both recounts will take place have not been finalized, but they are expected within the next week.
