AUGUSTA, Maine -- Central Maine Power Co. and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) are among this year's recipients of 2015 Smart Grid Customer Education Awards. SmartEnergy IP presented the awards earlier this month at the 2015 Smart Grid Customer Education Symposium in Chicago to utilities and partner organizations that have demonstrated leadership through their dedication to customer education in their Smart Grid deployments.

CMP and GMRI designed the PowerHouse education initiative, which combines smart meter technology with math and science learning to help students and their families examine and manage their home electricity use. Students investigate and use evidence-based reasoning about electricity consumption to develop energy management solutions. SmartEnergy IP honored CMP and GMRI for their creative approach to consumer education, which inspires students and their families to be advocates of energy education and management.

"CMP has a long tradition of supporting educational programs that focus on math, science, and technology, so working with GMRI is a natural fit," said Sara Burns, president and CEO of Central Maine Power Company. "This partnership has created a program that helps customers to maximize the benefits of our smart meter technology, and we are proud to be a part of it."

"It is my pleasure to recognize CMP and GMRI for their innovation in Smart Grid customer education and dedication to improving the important relationship between the customer and the utility," said Juliet Shavit, Founder and CEO of SmartEnergy IP. "Smart Grid customer education is about more than just lowering a bill. It is about customers having an informed and rewarding energy lifestyle, and these organizations have successfully demonstrated their commitment to achieving this ultimate goal."
