Some of the coldest temperatures in recent memory will descend on the Northern Seacoast in the next few days with the bitterest expected late tonight and into Thursday morning when wind chills will range from 15-25 degrees below zero.

The wind chill advisory is currently in effect from midnight tonight till 9 a.m. Thursday with residents being warned that frostbite can result on exposed skin in just minutes.

According to the National Weather Service, areas most prone to frostbite are uncovered skin and the extremities, such as hands and feet. Hypothermia, another threat during extreme cold, occurs when the body loses heat faster than it can produce.

The low tonight in the Greater Rochester area is expected to be just -3 with a high on Thursday of just 6.

Lows Thursday night will be even colder but moderating winds will mitigate the wind chill effect somewhat.

Temperatures won't get back into the 20s for highs until next Wednesday.

Luckily, the only snow event predicted is on Saturday.

And Patriots fans take note. The game on Sunday will be played in Foxboro, Mass., in the teens with wind chills likely in the single digits.
