MILTON - It is with great pride and sorrow that we bid farewell for now to the patriarch of our family, David Arthur Martin. Dave was born April 30, 1937 in Lynn, Mass. to Donald W. and Margaret B. (Ratigan) Martin. In the loving care of his family, with his dogs at his feet, esophageal cancer took him swiftly on Thursday, September 10, 2015.
Dave served on the USS Hammerberg during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post 8393. He married Carol P. (Burrows) Martin in 1959 and they had one son, David D. Martin.
An entrepreneur at heart, he and Carol moved from Saugus to open the Nite Owl Snack Bar in Milton in the early '60s. In the '70s, that spirit once again took hold and he and Carol started "The Misty Martin Band" which brought countless hours of musical entertainment to the local community and beyond. As a younger man, Dave enjoyed building and driving stock cars at the local tracks. All the while, he worked countless hours as an elevator tech. (Seacoast Elevator) to provide a comfortable life for his family.
"Grampa" loved to tinker and always thought "out of the box" to solve whatever problem appeared. This talent lives on in his son and grandson.
Survivors include the love of his life, Carol "Misty" Martin of Milton, N.H.; son David D. and daughter-in-law Debra of Farmington, N.H.; granddaughter Amy Johnson, her husband, Jeff and great-grandson, Cohen of Lakeland, Fla.; granddaughter Tiffany Bidet and her husband, Nathaniel of Norfolk, Va.; grandson David J. and his fiancée Danielle Guindon of Goffstown, N.H.; granddaughter Mariah McCallister of Milton, N.H.; Tiffany, David and Mariah's mother, Bridget Martin of Rochester, N.H.; brother Donald and his wife Agnes of Salem, N.H.; brother Dana and his wife Norma of Wiscasset, Maine; and sister Dayle Johnson of Grand Marsh, Wis.
Also surviving are his two faithful companions, German shepherds Summer and Autumn.
