Distracted riding being blamed on late-night motorcycle-SUV crash

ROCHESTER - Distracted riding is being blamed for a crash Friday night in which a motorcyclist rear-ended an SUV on North Main Street.

The accident occurred in the area of 58 North Main around 10:25 when police say Keturah Schulz, 20 of Rochester, was driving a 2012 Jeep Cherokee through downtown when she came to a stop for a pedestrian om a crosswalk and was struck from behind.

Police say Christopher LeBlanc, 33, of Rochester, was operating his 2013 Honda CB500 motorcycle following Schulz when he became distracted just prior to Schulz yielding to the pedestrian. This distraction resulted in him striking the rear of Schulz's vehicle, police said.

LeBlanc was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife threatening injuries.

The roadway was shut down for about 15 minutes during the initial response and investigation.

Police did not immediately release whether any summons or charges might be brought forward as the investigation continues into the crash.
