DOVER - The Dover Police Department is investigating what is expected to be its third overdose death in 10 days.

The most recent occurred on Wednesday when Dover Police and Dover Fire and Rescue responded around 2:45 p.m. to a residence at 71 Hampshire Circle where they found Jimmy Thomas Jr., 36, unresponsive. Thomas was declared dead at the scene.

While the cause and manner of Thomas' death will ultimately be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, at this time, based on observations made at the scene, it appears to be drug related.

If Thomas' death is confirmed due to a drug overdose, it will be the fifth confirmed in Dover in 2017, which had 12 suspected drug related deaths in 2016.

Jerome Foglietta, 30, was declared dead at his Second Street home on April 15, while Kristopher Shinney of Dover died of an apparent overdose on April 9.

The Dover Police Department has already responded to four nonfatal drug overdoses this year.

This case is being investigated by the Dover Police Department's Special Investigations Bureau. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Dover Police Department at 603-742-4646. Anonymous tips may be called into the Dover Crimeline at 603-749-6000.
