ROCHESTER - Rochester Police said on Tuesday that a recent proactive enforcement sweep targeting the downtown was so successful another is planned sometime later this month.
During the July 31 sweep, which was conducted with the assistance of the State Police Mobile Enforcement Team, police made almost 60 contacts with individuals for petty infractions including but not limited to bicycle violations and pedestrians not using crosswalks, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said.
But those contacts resulted in eight arrests, including two felony drug arrests, Thomas added.
Rochester had six arrests that night and State Police had the two felony drug arrests.
Of the six arrests noted by Rochester PD, the most significant was of Derek M Daigneau, 26, a city transient, on a capias in connection with a felony receiving stolen property case.
State Police were not immediately available to identify the two arrested on felony drug charges.
Thomas said they called in the state police to assist because it meant "more hands on deck" as they fanned out across the downtown.
"We feel it was a success - eight arrests plus all the contacts we had," he told The Rochester Voice.
Because of its success, Thomas said they were planning a similar proactive sweep later this month.
