ALFRED, Maine - State Police say an 81-year-old Lebanon man was killed on Monday afternoon when his moped collided with a car on Route 202 in Alfred.

Russell Faxon died at the scene. The car that struck Faxon was driven by Laura Melisi, 65, of Acton, who was attempting to turn left into an ice cream stand near the intersection of Gore Road, police say.

Troopers said Faxon was following a large box truck and Melisi turned left after the truck passed and did not see Faxon on the moped.

Melisi and a passenger in her car were not injured.

Police say Faxon was not wearing a helmet.
