Elderly Rochester woman drowns in Barrington pond

BARRINGTON - An elderly Rochester woman drowned in Ayers Pond on Thursday.

NH State Police-Marine Patrol responded to a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. from the woman's husband who said his wife was found face down in the water

Ruth Meader, 72, was brought to shore where her husband administered CPR until paramedics arrived. She was then transported to Frisbee Hospital where she died later that night.

According to a press release, Meader had been in the water with her husband throughout the day until at some point he noticed she had not been seen or heard from for a short time and subsequently went out to look for her.

He found her face down in about three feet of water and called 911, according to the press release.
