SHAPLEIGH - A former Shapleigh man was arrested on Sunday after a hourlong standoff at his estranged girlfriend's house on Owls Nest Road.

Andrew Mayer, 47, who now lives in Intervale, N.H., was charged with violation of conditions of release stemming from a domestic violence charge with the same woman.

The incident began when Sheriff's Deputies were called to the scene around 12:15 a.m.

It was determined Mayer had gotten into an argument with the woman, grabbed an AK47 rifle that was in the home and threatened to commit suicide, prompting the woman to flee outside.

Responding deputies cordoned off the area and established communication with Mayer who expressed suicidal thoughts to the deputies. Sheriff's deputies had several phone conversations with Mayer over the course of an hour and a quarter, finally convincing Mayer to come out unarmed.

However, once outside, when deputies ordered him to submit, he tried to re-enter the residence and was tasered and apprehended by force.

Mayer was transported to the York County Jail and held without bail pending a video arraignment today.
