ROCHESTER - Family and friends of a Rochester man killed in a logging accident on Friday are mourning his death, with hearts even heavier as he was just three weeks away from marrying his sweetheart on the day of the anniversary he met here just one year ago.

Keith B. Hussey, 44, who grew up in Farmington and attended Farmington High, died on Friday in Exeter, according to his cousin,

Tina Gouin of Somersworth.

Gouin said Hussey, while working for Urban Tree Service of Rochester, had just "topped" a tree and was walking on the ground when the tree uprooted and fell on him.

Hussey had been scheduled to marry his fiancée Candy M. (Knox) Edgerly, Oct. 13, Gouin said today, which has made for an extremely difficult time for the extended family and friends. She said it would've been the one-year anniversary of when they first met last fall.

Hussey is also survived by four brothers, including Aaron Hussey of North Carolina, who at 37, said he always looked up to his older brother, who was both a friend and a mentor.

"He basically gave me my adolescence," Aaron Hussey said. "He always showed me a good time and made sure I was OK."

Aaron Hussey said when he moved to North Carolina after graduating from high school, Keith continued to make sure he called him to make sure he was doing OK.

"And when I came home he was always the first one there to give me a hug," he added. "He always told me how much he loved me and my family."

Aaron Hussey, who was on his trip from Florence-ravaged North Carolina today, said by telephone they had had to endure long detours to find a way out of the flooding the state is still dealing with.

He said when the storm was at its height and they lost power for a week he had been texting his brother to let him know they were OK.

"I had texted him (Friday morning) to let him know we were in the middle of getting our power back," he said. "Then when it came back on in the afternoon I tried to call but he didn't answer."

He said he found out around 5 p.m. that his big brother was gone.

Keith Hussey had worked for Urban Tree Service for a long time, said Gouin.

She said her cousin loved doing what he did and regarded himself as one of the best tree workers and climbers in the business.

"He would say 'I'm the best at what I do, nobody else can do what I do,'" Gouin said.

"He was the strongest climber they had and he had no fear," said Gouin, who added her cousin was always a happy go lucky guy who always wanted everyone to knew he loved them."

Family and friends will gather Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion, Post #7, Eastern Avenue, Rochester, N.H.
