ROCHESTER - Not only did a crowd of some 2,000 gathered on the Spaulding athletic fields enjoy Tuesday's Night Before the Fourth fireworks show.

Downtown Rochester did, too.

Emily Pelletier, president of the Main Street Board of Directors, said when planners put the event together it was their hope it would be a boost to the downtown as well.

"Our hope was not only to put on an awesome event for the public, but for people to stay and dine and shop downtown," Pelletier said on Wednesday.

For the first-ever event of its kind - co-sponsored by the city of Rochester and Main Street - Pelletier said she couldn't have hoped for a better, more smoothly run event.

"I am overwhelmed with the success of the first of many Night Before the 4th events for Rochester," she said.

About 17 vendors were on hand with food, drink and even ice cream to keep the crowds cool and hydrated.

Rochester Police, Fire and Frisbie ambulance were also on hand to make sure everyone stayed safe.

No serious medical issues were reported as of presstime.

Main Street Executive Director Angela Mills said while setting up for the event that she was excited to have such a great party for the city and looked forward to many more.
