Former Spaulding principal who won national award for excellence dies at 81

SANFORD, Maine - Paul E. Seavey, of Sanford, a former principal at Spaulding High who was once honored as one of the nation's best, died last month at the age of 81.

Seavey, also a former school administrator in Biddeford and Sanford, died on Sept. 24. The cause of death was not given.

Seavey was born in Rochester, N.H., on April 13, 1936 and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1954.

Seavey's long and illustrious career included principal and teacher at Barnstead Elementary School, Assistant Principal and teacher at American Schools in Germany, teacher at Spaulding High, Director of Adult Education and Assistant Principal at Spaulding High School, Assistant Principal at Sanford High School and Principal of Biddeford High School. He retired in 1990. In 1989, he was one of nine principals in the U.S. to receive the Award for Leadership from The Kennedy Center in Washington for the development of Fine Arts Studies at the high school level.
He leaves behind his wife, Stella; daughters, Suellen Troup, and Karen MacNeill; a brother James Seavey; and a sister Adele Timmins.
