ROCHESTER - The former state rep charged with stealing money from the Strafford County Republican Committee while serving as its treasurer faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted at a March trial.
Fred Leonard, 54, of Rochester, is accused of stealing more than $1,500 from January 2012 to November 2014, according to a June indictment.
Leonard had been a longtime activist in state and city policits and was a former vice president of the Rochester Concerned Taxpayers Association, He served as state rep from 2011 to 2012.
He also ran unsuccessfully for Rochester mayor in the last election, losing to Mayor T.J. Jean.
He also had been serving on the Rochester Planning Board until his recent resignation.
