LEBANON - House 20 state representative Karen Gerrish announced in a Facebook post on Sunday she is not filing for re-election and will return to classroom teaching.

Gerrish, who was elected in 2014 and re-elected to a second two-year terms in 2016, said she was proud and humbled to have served in Augusta, but it was time to return "to the classroom I so love."

"I will not be filing for re-election to the Maine Legislature, nor seeking any other political or elected office," she wrote. "Instead I will be returning to the classroom I so love. There is no perfect time to make this announcement, but with filing opened until mid-March, it is important to give the women and men who might be interested in serving ample time to reflect on the decision."

Gerrish has been a longtime computer class instructor at Lebanon Elementary School.

House 20 comprises Lebanon, Acton and a portion of Shapleigh.
