GONIC - A Gonic man is facing two felony charges after his arrest on Sunday in connection with what started out as a dispute over fireworks, police say.

The incident began a little after 9 p.m. after police got a call for what was first thought to be some sort of domestic problem.

When police arrived, however, they found it was a neighbor dispute in which one man objected to another resident's setting off fireworks inside the mobile home park.

The man arrested, Gregory S. Holmes, 33, of 2 Kennedy Ave., is alleged to have objected to the fireworks, then gone inside his home, returned outside with a 9mm semi-automatic Sig Sauer pistol and fired two shots into the air, Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said today.

Holmes was charged with reckless conduct, placing another in danger; and falsifying physical evidence. Pinkham declined to give specifics on the exact nature of the falsifying physical evidence charge, but did say it had to do with Holmes allegedly hiding certain evidence he would know police would be looking for.

Both charges are Class B felonies, each punishable by up to seven years in state prison.

No one was cited on Rochester's recently enacted fireworks ordinance, Pinkham noted.
