Gray appears headed to win in state Sen. District 6 race

ROCHESTER - Unofficial results late Monday showed incumbent Republican state Sen. Jim Gray holding off a stiff challenge by his opponent, Democrat Anne Grassie of Rochester.

In Rochester, which is a large part of the Senate District 6 consituency, Gray won by just 72 votes.

Gray also bested Grassie in the other District 6 towns of Farmington, Alton and Barnstead while New Durham and Gilmanton totals could not be verified early this morning.

Rochester voting was brisk on Tuesday, with some 53.3 percent of the electorate turning out at the polls, including 1,291 new voters, 886 of whom registered as undeclared. In all, unofficial numbers show a total of 21,917 voting in these midterms in the Lilac City.

Neither Gray nor Grassie were immediately available for comment today.
