MILTON - Grief counselors were on hand at Nute High/Middle School today to help students and staff cope with the tragic loss of a 16-year-old who had attended the school and died in a tragic car accident on Hare Road on Sunday.

The young man's name has been mentioned often on social media and a Go Fund Me page has been set up to help cover his final expenses and memorial, but police have not released his personal information pending notification of next of kin.

The teen was in a Toyota Camry with four others when it rolled over in the area of 484 Hare Road around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday and struck a tree.

The teen who died and another motorist were both ejected from the vehicle, which crashed at the bottom of a hill in a portion of the road that is not paved.

Four occupants, including the other teen who was ejected were all transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as minor injuries.

Irwin Sussman, superintendent of Milton School District, declined to release the victim's name, but released a statement to The Rochester Voice early this afternoon that reads:

"With deep regret we share the loss of our student. The entire school community is impacted by this tragedy. We have additional counselors available in the Nute Middle/High School from Disaster Behavioral Health Response Team, Community Partners, Milton Elementary School, and Wakefield Paul School to provide support to our students, staff and the community. This support will be ongoing based upon the school community's needs. If families are needing assistance they should contact the school at 603-652-4591."

The ages of the crash victims and their hometowns were not released by police.

Heavy downpours were reported in the area at the time the crash occurred.

Hare Road from Thurston Road to Route 153 remained closed for several hours while the investigation into the crash continued.

The crash remains under investigation by the Milton Police Department with the assistance of the Strafford County TAR team.

Anyone with information on the crash or who may have witnessed the Toyota on Hare Road during the time of the crash is asked to please call the Milton Police Department at 603-652-4500 and asked to speak with Officer Nicholas Nirgianakis.
