Guava is a beautiful green Quaker parrot that has been at CVHS for a month. Guava's previous family didn't have enough time to properly care for her, so they surrendered her to the shelter. However, Guava is a lively and talkative bird looking for a human companion to chat the day away with!Guava likes to spend each day hopping from branch to branch in her cage, and squawking greetings at everyone that passes by. She never tires of compliments, and will tweet with delight when you call her "pretty bird." Like many Quaker parrots, Guava has demonstrated a knack for learning human speech, and would thrive in a home that is willing to speak often and teach her new phrases.

Quaker parrots are an ideal pet for new bird owners, as they tend to possess the engaging personality of a larger parrot in a smaller, more manageable frame. Guava is no exception to this rule, and has kept the staff entertained for nearly a month with her sociable antics. This gorgeous bird could also benefit from proper socialization in a home with an experienced bird owner. Guava exhibits a bit of cage aggression, and can nibble at fingers that get too close, so families with children would need to pay close attention during interactions.

Do you have room in your home for a chatty feathered friend? Come meet Guava at Cocheco Valley Humane Society at 262 County Farm Road in Dover, NH! For more information on adopting a pet, visit cvhsonline.org.

(Note: It is impossible to determine the sex of a Quaker parrot without a DNA test. While we refer to Guava as a female, she could just as easily be a male.)
