Town of Lebanon Collections/Deputy Clerk

Nature of Work:
This is a part-time position working 18-25 hours a week. Work involves the collection and accounting of funds by municipal operations, including tax collection and fees for municipal services as well as issuance of licenses, registrations, and other office duties as assigned by the Town Clerk

Reports to: Town Clerk and Board of Selectmen

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Waits on Counter, Greets visitors, Answers Phones and questions and provides information to members of the public. Directing the inquiry to the appropriate staff member, or providing the necessary information if possible.
  • Issues various licenses such as marriage, hunting, fishing, and dog licenses, and collects payment for such services.
  • Processes and collects excise taxes for newly registered and renewal registered automobiles, motor-homes and trailers
  • Operates a variety of office machines including typewriter, printer(s), calculator and computer terminal
  • Collects incoming property tax payments, recording the payment and issuing a receipt.
  • Assist with Elections as needed such as issuing and receiving absentee ballots, working the polls etc.
  • Performs related work as required or assigned such as filing, sorting mail, etc.

Requirements of Work:
Knowledge of cash processing procedures designed to assure accurate handling of cash payments, daily cash reconciliation.
Ability to meet and interact with the public in a helpful, courteous, and professional manner.
Ability to operate calculator, typewriter, computer terminals and other common office machines and equipment.
Ability to stand for long periods of time typing at counters.

Training and Experience Required:
Experience in cash collection and office clerical activities; graduation from high school including or supplemented by courses in business or accounting subjects; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge of modern office procedures, practices and equipment. Trio experience desired but not required, willing to train the right candidate. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments from general, oral or written instructions. This is a bonded position.
