ROCHESTER - John George Newhall, born October 23, 1933 in Sanford, Maine, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 14, 2018, surrounded by family at Maine Medical Center.
Enlisting into the USAF following his graduation from Spaulding High School in 1952, John served as a military policeman, returning to Rochester in 1956 where he met and married Mary Thompson, also of Rochester.
Retiring in 1981 as a Captain and 24-year veteran of the N.H. State Police, he went on to a second career at Seabrook Station, then worked as a bailiff for Strafford County Courthouse, until officially retiring at 80 years old. John enjoyed winter months in Englewood, Florida, with his wife Mary and many of their friends.
Son of Charles and Beulah (Hutchinson) Newhall, John was a dedicated husband, father, uncle, and Papa. He leaves behind Mary, his loving wife of 59 years; children Julie Newhall Davis and her husband Alan, John George Newhall, Jr. and his wife Corinne, and Janice Newhall Brown; niece Debra Griffiths; his sister Hazel Newhall Hickel; her children Becky, Cindy, and Seth; sister-in-law Jean Custeau and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
If you were looking for John, you would typically find him at home, at work, reading a book (oftentimes in the car waiting for Mary), playing basketball, at one of his kids', grandkids' or great-grandkids' extracurricular activities, or at the gym.
