STRAFFORD - John Benjamin Young, 88, of Strafford, died on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Watson Fields in Dover after a period of failing health. John was born March 18, 1929 in Rochester, the son of the late Frederick A. and Mildred (Waldron) Young.
He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1947 and attended NH Technical Institute. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John worked and retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after 30 years. He was a longtime and active member of the Bow Lake Baptist Church, Strafford Historical Society, and very active member of his community; receiving the Citizen of the Year, along with his wife, in 1992. John's hobbies include an interest in restoring old cars, woodworking and hunting.
Members of his family include his wife of 63 years, Carolyn (Foss) Young; son, Rick and wife Maggie; daughter, Brett and husband Rene Lavoie; grandchildren, Lincoln and wife Kristen Lavoie, Travis and wife Ariana Lavoie and Alanna Young; great-grandchildren, Wellington Foss Lavoie and Faelan Lavoie.
