ROCHESTER - On Tuesday, December 20, 2016, June M. (King) Hirtle went to be with her Saviour and other members of her family and friends.
Born in Malden, Mass., the daughter of Olga Erickson King and Frederick M. King on February 11, 1923. She attended Malden schools and the Swedish Methodist Church on Salem Street.
In 1940, she married Frank Weston Hirtle, Jr., at the Church of God in Malden. During the 64 years of marriage they had nine children.
June was a very gentle soul who loved her children and her Church. With so many children she was unable to attend on a regular basis but... she saw to it that all her children attended regularly in their white shirts, ties and shined shoes. After John was born and half the children were grown and gone, June was able to attend regularly and enjoy so many activities she had missed.
June and Frank moved to Rochester, N.H., in 1957, thinking it to be a safer place to raise so many boys. They moved back to Malden in 1964.
June worked for Spadafora and in the executive dining room at the top of the HUB. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, her sisters and her children. She had a great many friends and enjoyed playing all kinds of games with them. She was an amazing woman, loved by so many.
She saw herself as rather timid and not very strong. She was very ladylike and genteel. She could play the piano by ear, loved to sing and she loved to paint. She would gather the children in the kitchen and teach them to sing and tap dance with her. For a lady to raise nine children, eight rambunctious boys is no small feat.
To be as gentle and loving at the end of her life as she was as a child and a teenager tells us she was indeed a very strong lady infused with the love and strength of her Lord and Saviour.
June was predeceased by her husband, Frank Hirtle, Jr., her son, Frank Hirtle, III, two grandsons, Gregory Hirtle and Frederick Hirtle, three great grandchildren, Isaac George, Natalie George and Corinna Fleury, two sons-in-law, Carl Johnson and Bert George, two daughters-in-law, Marge Hirtle and Karen Hirtle, her brother, Herbert King, and two sisters, Lois Hughson and Doris Berryman.
She is survived by eight of her nine children, Nancy George, Frederick Hirtle and wife Colleen, Arthur Hirtle, Richard Hirtle, Harold Hirtle and wife Helen, Keith Hirtle and wife Lisa, Kevin Hirtle, and John Hirtle. Her grandchildren, Karen Johnson, Paul and Christina George, Clifton Hirtle, Ronald and Laura Hirtle, Lisa and Thomas Fleury, Kimberly and Robert Webster, Richard and Franchesca Hirtle, Amy-june Hirtle, Daniel Hirtle, Alexander Hirtle, Alexey Hirtle, Nicole Hirtle, Angela Hirtle, Lauren Hirtle, Susan Hirtle, Melynda Hirtle and Trish Hirtle; 22 great grandchildren; and seven great, great grandchildren.
