DOVER - A Lebanon man has been indicted as a habitual offender after illegally operating a motor vehicle in Rochester in February.
Richard Jacques, 31, of 899 Carl Broggi Hwy., Lebanon, Maine, was arrested when stopped while driving on Main Street in Rochester on Feb. 12, after having been classified as a habitual offender in October 2015.
Habitual offender status is given to those committing an excessive amount of motor vehicle infractions within a specific time frame, including various offenses from speeding and reckless conduct to DWI and other more serious crimes.
If Jacques is found guilty of habitual offender he can be imprisoned for up to five years and fined a maximum of $4,000.
The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down on July 19 and released to the public on Wednesday.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather than enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
