Lebanon, Milton clean up then get down after clearing a winter's worth of roadside trash

Milton and Lebanon residents made their roadways neat and tidy for Earth Day on Saturday with large numbers of volunteers including road crews from each town toting away hundreds of bags of roadside debris to their respective transfer stations.

In Lebanon Deborah Dorey Wilson did much of the organizing for the event, which included a cookout and concert featuring renowned local musician Ron Jones among others.

Wilson said about 100 volunteers aided in the annual cleanup.

The festivities after the work was done included a visit to Town Offices by the Tri-Town Bookmobile, free vehicle tours by Lebanon Fire and EMS and a food drive by Lebanon Boy Scout Troop #369.

Members of the Lebanon Conservation Commission, York County Local Green Movement, York County Invasive Species Project and Three Ponds Protective Association were also on hand.

In Milton Public Works director Pat Smith organized the cleanup effort and a cookout afterward back at the Town Garage near the Transfer Station.

Smith said almost 80 volunteers collected 175 bags of roadside trash to get Milton ready for its summer season.
