ROCHESTER - Leo A. Michel, Sr. 90, died on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Watson Fields in Dover following a period of failing health.
Born January 16, 1926, in Lowell, Mass., he was the son of Wilfred and Yvonne (Gaudreau) Michel.
Mr. Michel served in the Navy with the Seabees during WWII. He later worked for many years as a supervisor at General Electric.
Leo was an outstanding athlete at Somersworth High School, and was a member of the first class to be inducted into the Somersworth Sports Hall of Fame. Leo was also an avid golfer, achieving five hole-in-ones, and won two club championships in his career.
Leo's greatest enjoyments included spending time with his family, attending sporting events, and creating beautiful stain-glass pieces.
Members of his family include his children, Diane Michel Norton and husband John of Gorham, Maine; Leo Michel, Jr. and wife Linda of Port St. Lucie, Fla; Denise Caplette and husband James of Rochester, N.H.; Dana Michel and wife Maureen of Somersworth, N.H.; Jack Michel and wife Karen of Rochester, N.H.; and Jan Melchior and husband Kent of Rochester, N.H.; 11 grandchildren: Michel, Dennis, Ryan, Nathan, Tanna, Evan, Lindsay, Ashley, Mallory, Kendra, and Corey; 14 great grandchildren: Lauren, Matthew, Annie, Elizabeth, Gabrielle, Avery, Jaxton, Gavin, Trey, Landon, Lincoln, Reese, Colin, and Cooper; his brother, Robert Michel of Beverly, Mass., and his sister, Lorette Weeks of Rochester, N.H.; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline (Kennedy) Michel and two sisters Annette Goulet and Rita Couturier.
