ROCHESTER - Leon Woodbury Fernald died at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, N.H., on Friday, July 22, 2016. He was born to William and Helen (Baxter) Fernald on May 6, 1929.
Leon was a gifted mechanic and worked at Drake Motor Sales for several decades. He retired from Fibredyne. Leon served in the Army during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic.
He is survived by his children: Sandra Goulet of Milton, and Timothy of Leadville, Colo., six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are: Wilma Marlow (Curtis) of Jasper, Fla.; Serena Green of Rochester; Harris (Susan) of Catawba, S.C.; Owen (Cathy) of Barrington, and sister-in-law Sheila Fernald (David) of Madbury, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed.
He was predeceased by his wife Pearl (Howe); sister, Julia Haigh; and brothers: Roger, Alvin and David.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the Veterans Home for their care of Leon.
