Library will soon be able to distribute state park passes

ROCHESTER -The Friends of the Rochester Public Library earlier this week held their annual meeting where they voted to add the New Hampshire State Parks to the library's list of museum and parks passes.

These passes can provide members access to Pawtuckaway, Bear Brook, Northwood Meadows State Parks nearby, among others.

Tickets are also now on sale for the Sweet Art Baking Contest, where attendees will have the opportunity to sample and judge more than a dozen baked goods.

The Sweet Art event, a joint effort between the Friends of the Rochester Public Library and the Rochester MFA, will be held on April 28 in the library community room. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the event will continue until 3:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $5 and are on sale at the library circulation desk. All proceeds go to supporting the library and its programs, and the winner of the baking competition will receive a custom apron. There will also be a reception in the Carnegie Gallery hosted by the MFA. The Friends are currently seeking additional bakers for the event.

Anyone interested in baking may sign up at the circulation desk. There is a $5 fee to participate.

In May, the Friends of the Library will sponsor a selfie booth outside the library for Free Comic Book Day on May 5. Visitors will have the opportunity to take selfies wearing comic book themed masks provided by the Friends of the Public Library.

"The Friends are an essential resource that the library depends on to keep our programs fresh and engaging," Library Director Brian Sylvester said. "I am grateful for their dedication and continued support of our mission."
