ACTON - A man fatally shot himself on Wednesday after a short police chase in Acton.

According to a press release from York County Sheriff William King, a deputy noticed a travel violation as the man's vehicle passed and activated his lights and siren in an attempt to pull him over.

The man, the lone occupant of the vehicle, sped off and a chase ensued.

The car then abruptly stopped in the 1400 block of West Shore Drive, but as the deputy approached the car the driver shot himself, King said.

Acton Rescue responded to the scene, but it was too late.

Officials are not expected to release the name of the victim, who was said to be in his 60s.
