ALFRED, Maine - A West Lebanon man indicted last month on felony burglary and misdemeanor theft charges in connection with an alleged March break-in of a Lebanon residence was released from jail Friday after his bail was reduced.

Thaddeus W. Barbour, 37, formerly of 284 Prospect Hill Road, was picked up by Milton Police on March 24 after Maine lawmen put out a warrant for his arrest in New Hampshire in connection with an alleged March 19 burglary on Prospect Hill Road.

Maine State Trooper James Macdonald said in April that an investigation revealed that Barbour may have broken into the residence after he was denied money by the homeowner, adding that Barbour was suspected of having solicited money from several area residents.

Barbour's record shows previous convictions on burglary and theft charges in 2003.

Macdonald said in April that Barbour had been uncooperative in the investigation.

Barbour had been held till Friday at the York County Jail on $1,000 cash.

At Friday's status conference his bail was reduced to $250.

A docket call and possible trial will likely wait until September.

A Class B felony conviction could result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Barbour is well known in the area of Prospect Hill Road and Champion Street, especially for his efforts to keep the small waterfront park at the bottom of Prospect Hill tidy during summer months.
