LEBANON - More details have emerged in the indictment earlier this month of a man who allegedly store more than $25,000 from a Lebanon business last summer.

Justin Packard, 28, whose indictment lists him as being from Lebanon but State Police indicate he's from Durham, was arrested on Oct. 31 in Lebanon after more than a monthlong investigation.

Maine State Police Trooper David Coflesky was dispatched on Sept. 7 for a report of a theft from a safe, according to a post on the Maine State Police Facebook page.

Upon meeting with the victim, it was learned that $25,845 in cash was stolen.

After investigators conducted employee interviews in an attempt to narrow the suspect pool, it was learned that one employee had gone on an out-of-character spending spree following the theft, police said.

Subpoenaed financial records and reported purchases indicated the employee had bought a vehicle with cash and paid off overdue rent and other bills.

Armed with probable cause, police were granted an arrest warrant for Packard for Class B felony theft (over $10,000) on Oct. 31.

Packard was arrested in Lebanon the same night in advance of a planned move to Florida the following day.

Packard is currently out on $2,500 cash bail, York County Jail personnel said today.

A Class B felony can draw up to a 10-year prison term.

The York County grand jury indictments were handed down April 4.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
