CONCORD - A former Rochester man was sentenced on Wednesday to five years in a federal prison for robbing a credit union in Somersworth in 2016.

Marc Beaulieu, 31, of Caribou, Maine, but who formerly lived on Charles Street in Rochester, entered the Service Credit Union in Somersworth on Nov. 18, 2016, approached a teller, and handed them a note that stated "Give me all your money and no one will get hurt," according to court documents.

The teller gave Beaulieu a sum of money that included a packet of bait bills. He was wearing a camouflage jacket, dark hat, khaki pants, and bright red or orange sneakers, all captured on surveillance film before he fled the scene in a Subaru.

After law enforcement released an image of the bank robber to the media, numerous individuals contacted the police and identified the robber as Beaulieu. Police also obtained video from a convenience store near the credit union that captured Beaulieu in the Subaru and putting on the camouflage jacket.

Beaulieu was arrested in Portsmouth on Nov. 21, 2016, and the camouflage jacket, the sneakers, and other evidence connecting him to the robbery were recovered. Beaulieu previously pleaded guilty to the crime in April.

"Robberies and other violent crimes present a substantial threat to public safety," said U.S. Attorney Scott Murray. "In order to protect our community, we work closely with our law enforcement partners to arrest, prosecute, and incarcerate those who commit these dangerous crimes." The Somersworth Police Department led the investigation of the case with the assistance of the Portsmouth Police Department, the United States Marshals Service, and the Strafford County Department of Corrections. The Federal Bureau of Investigation also provided assistance. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald A. Feith.

Beaulieu, who has had other brushes with the law, was also sentenced today for theft that occurred at the Rochester Walmart about 10 weeks before the bank job on Aug. 9, 2016

Beaulieu pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Steven M. Houran to 12 months, all offset by 365 days of pretrial confinement.
