ROCHESTER - Marion Witham Scala, 82, of Rochester died on Saturday, February 6, 2016, with her family by her side after a four-year battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Lebanon, Maine, Marion was the daughter of Clarence and Juliette "Gagne" Witham. Marion grew up in Rochester and attended Spaulding High School, graduating in 1951.
While attending Spaulding she met her future husband John "Pete" Scala. They shared 62 years of marriage. They enjoyed dancing and dining out and made it a priority to attend their children and grandchildren's activities over the years.
She was a parishioner at Saint Mary's Church. Throughout the years, Marion was actively involved in many clubs including sport's boosters, Rochester Lion's Club, and, up until she fell ill, held chair position at Tara Estates. She retired in 1994 from Eastern Air Device.
Her greatest joy was spending time with family. Other joys included Italian cooking, knitting (with perfection), and shopping. Her crowded closets are evidence of her love of shopping.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Susan Howard of Rochester, son Peter Scala and wife Emma of New Durham, and son John Scala Jr. and wife Kerry of Rochester. Eight grandchildren; Brian Gregoire, Jeff Gilpatrick, Chris, Shane and Jill Howard, Kasey Frisbee, Jaimee Scala, and Dominic Scala. She was known as Gigi to her six great grandchildren Hannah, Alaura, Blake, Colin, Ronan, and Dylan. She is also survived by her sister Thelma Coggio and husband Charlie of Lynn, Mass., and several loving nieces and nephews.
Marion was predeceased by her parents, Sister Dorothy and her husband Cy Hagerman, her daughter Donna Scala, grandson Tony Gregoire, and granddaughter Ashley Scala.
