EXETER - Mary (Lou) E. Miltner, 82, of Exeter, formally of Rochester, died at Portsmouth Hospital Thursday, June 14, 2018, surrounded by her children.
Mary was born in Huntington, N.Y. on Nov. 25, 1935. The daughter of Harry and Martha (Gosewich) Stefens, Mary graduated from Huntington High School and the Katherine Gibbs School. She married her high school sweetheart, Al, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Mary was co-owner and bookkeeper for many years for the family business, Miltner's Shoes. In addition to raising five children, Mary was active in area organizations and through her volunteer work. Mary was a talented artist and photographer, and she loved to travel.
Mary's loving and caring ways made her an integral part of her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives. She leaves five children: daughter Gwen Ross and partner Kevin Hinchey of Somersworth, son Albert Miltner and his wife Karen of Gilford; Laura Auger and her husband Dan of Alton Bay; Christine Millette and her husband Ed of Chichester; and son Peter Miltner and wife Jill of Rochester. In addition, Mary leaves 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She leaves her sister, Ann O'Connor of Kennesaw, Ga. and a special sister-in-law, Marilyn Miltner of Huntington, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Mary leaves special lifelong friends, and many Exeter friends, most recently those made at Riverwoods.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Al, and sister, Hedy Rosenfeld. She will forever leave a hole in our hearts until we meet again.
