MILTON - Two Milton Boy Scouts are stepping up to the plate for the Nute High Softball team.

Life Scouts David Barca Jr. and Zach Gerard have both taken on lead roles building dugouts for the softball field as part of their Eagle Scout projects for Troop #155 of Milton.

Barca is involved in construction of the home dugout, while Gerard is working on the visitors' dugout.

The field is currently in the process of being built behind the Milton Elementary School, and is expected to be completed in time for the Nute High softball season next spring.

After the home dugout digging was completed, Matrix Concrete co-owner Don Fuller provided training for the Scouts on how to build the forms as well as instruction on concrete properties and safe handling. Matrix also donated equipment and the concrete, which was poured on Nov. 18. Scouts performed the labor.
Wood for the dugouts will be donated by Cameron's Lawn and Garden.

Other local businesses that have helped with equipment, labor, material and money include Perkins Concrete of Rochester, Can Brothers of Middleton, Sebastian Septic, Eastern Boat, Milton VFW, Currier Plumbing, Paey Construction, the Milton Moose, Barron Brothers, including driver Tim Lund, Spartan Mechanical LLC, Teneriffe Sports Club and Gilford Well.

If anyone would like to arrange a donation or find out how to join the cause, contact Milton Rec Director Karen Brown at recreation@miltonnh-us.com or (603) 652-4501 ext. 8.
