MILTON - When Eric Francis of Farmington began getting a cough in early March he thought nothing of it. He thought he had a bad cold or the flu that was going around.

But when the coughing got worse he finally went to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with COPD and put on an inhaler.

But that was just the beginning, he soon found out.

After x-rays, MRIs and CAT scans, the prognosis spiraled downward. Eric leaned he had stage 4 lung cancer, bone cancer in his hips and legs and a brain tumor.

"He's trying to keep a positive frame of mind," said Diane Currier of Currier Plumbing and Milton Pump and Filter, where Eric has worked for six years.

Currier said Eric still works - even during weekly chemo visits - although they keep an eye on him because his energy levels are not what they were.

"He wants to work to keep from just sitting at home and being bored and looking at four walls," she said.

Although the diagnoses are grim, Eric remains positive and the prognosis is hopeful, according to his Gofundme Page.

Eric, who is married with two children, is scheduled for a procedure to remove the brain tumor later this month and will be resuming his chemo once he's strong enough after that.

In the meantime, family and friends have put together a Gofundme Page and trying to help out with the incredible expense left over even with insurance.

In addition Perkins Concrete has stepped up to contribute three cords of cut, split wood to the family and Robert Williams, the police chief of Barrington, and his wife, Helen have donated a 2006 Grand Cherokee, which will go to the highest bidder, with all the money going to the Francis'.

Donations can be dropped off at Currier Plumbing and Milton Pump and Filter at 875 White Mtn. Hwy. in Milton.

Folk can also contribute on his Gofundme Page by clicking here.

As far as Eric, he's taking it one day at a time.

"He's scared and worried, but he wants to beat it and as far as he's concerned, he's going to," Currier said.
