Milton man gets six months in jail for DV assault

DOVER - A Milton man was sentenced to six months in county jail on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a domestic partner in September in Milton.

William McKay, 45, of 77 Charles St., was also sentenced on a single charge of witness tampering in connection with the case.

According to one of the indictments, McKay attempted "to induce or otherwise cause (the victim) to withhold testimony or information by asking an unknown person to have them retract their statement regarding charges pending against him regarding a Sept. 13 second degree assault and simple DV assault that occurred in Milton. The tampering is alleged to have occurred between Jan. 5-14 in Dover.

In a second indictment McKay was accused of attempting "to induce or otherwise cause (the victim) to withhold testimony by asking (them) not to appear at proceedings relating to criminal charges pending against the defendant" regarding a DV simple assault charge that occurred on Aug. 4, also in Milton. Tampering in that case is alleged on Jan. 24.

During the plea and sentencing hearing McKay acknowledged his guilt on a single witness tampering charge, for which he was sentenced to 1-3 years in state prison, suspended for two years, to run consecutive to the assault sentence.

Three other charges, a domestic violence assault, a second-degree assault and a second witness tampering charge were all nol prossed.

With 121 days of pretrial credit, McKay will likely be released in a couple of months on good behavior.
