Milton man nabbed for DWI, open container after morning crash

ROCHESTER - A Milton man was arrested Saturday after police say he rearended another vehicle while driving drunk with an open container of alcohol in the car with him.

Police responded to the Milton Road lights in front of Market Basket around 11:15 a.m. and after a brief investigation learned that Dennis Barnard, 68, of Rochester, was traveling southbound in his 2012 Dodge Ram pickup and towing a trailer while stopped at the traffic when he was struck by a 2015 Kia Optima, driven by Dean Davidson, 54, of Milton, also traveling southbound.

Neither operator nor a passenger in Barnard's car was injured, however Davidson's Kia had to be towed from the scene due to the amount of damage it sustained.

As a result of the on-scene investigaton, Davidson was arrested and charged with DWI and transportation of alcoholic beverages as he had an open container containing what is believed to be an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle.

He was released on $250 bail and is scheduled for arraignment next month.
