MILTON - Two Milton Police Officers were recognized for achievements and heroism and two others were promoted during a brief ceremony at a regularly scheduled selectmen's meeting at Town Hall on Monday.
Officer Nicholas Nirgianakis was recognized for his completion of the DARE program which is a major asset to the Town of Milton especially the children at the schools, Milton Police Chief Richard Krauss said.
Meanwhile, Officer Brian Leahy was recognized for receiving the Congressional Law Enforcement Unit Citation for his assistance in a January pursuit that ended in Milton.
Leahy was on hand when the chase ended at the end of Townhouse Road where the suspect got out of his car and ran out on the ice before he and several officers and a K-9 fell through.
Leahy was able to take the suspect into custody and assisted others who had fallen through.
The promotions went to Officer Thomas Hebert, who was promoted to sergeant; and longtime Milton officer Evan Favorite, who was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant.
According to a post on the Milton Police Facebook Page, Hebert is a firearms instructor, driving instructor and an Operator on the Strafford County Regional Operations and Tactical Unit.

Favorite is a firearms instructor, defensive tactics instructor and a Taser Instructor. Favorite was also just promoted to assistant commander of the Strafford County Regional Operations and Tactical Unit.
Earlier this month Devon Pageau, who is an assistant chief with Milton Fire and Rescue, graduated from the state's Police Academy and will begin in-house training with the Milton Police Department where he will be a part-time officer.
It was also announced on Monday that longtime Milton resident and former State Trooper Maureen Steer was installed as chaplain for the town.
