MILTON - Next Saturday is the anniversary of a Milton man's business that spawned from a campfire dare.

"We were sitting around the fire and there was going to be a yard sale the next day and everyone was selling something but me," said Dan Macdonald. "So I said 'I'm gonna sell something, too,' and they said like 'yeah, what?' and I said, 'I'll think of something.'"

And so began Two Men and a Gnome, Macdonald's version of solar light creations that are equal portions cute, campy and as unique as you want them.

Everything is mostly made from recycled telephone poles, fence posts and lobster line before they're finished with either gnomes or other themed decorations, Macdonald explains.

There's a lot of Boston sports stuff," he said on Friday. "But it pretty much runs the gamut." Among recurrent themes are bears, frogs, firefighters, dogs or pretty much whatever someone wants.

Anyone who has been to Milton's Mi-Te-Jo's campground as a guest or summer or weekend camper will see his work all over the place, he added.

Macdonald, who has lived in Milton for 25 years, said he'll be selling at craft fairs later this year in Barrington, Farmington and Bow, N.H., as well as Rowley, Mass.

Most of his works sell from $30-$60 with more elaborate pieces going for up to $120, he said.

Anyone interested in ordering one of his handmade creations can message him on his Two Men and a Gnome Facebook Page, where they can also find out what craft fairs are coming up next.
