Of caveats and cockles on a Sunday morn

I've always been a guy who thinks the glass is half full.

So now with January almost in the history books, I feel like we're halfway home with winter, especially after dodging the bullet that hit the mid-Atlantic states this weekend.

When you remember back to a major storm on Halloween 2014 and then being pummeled relentlessly with snowstorms throughout January and February of last year, you can see my point.

I mean I look at March as the month we break the back of winter and prep for a glorious spring.

I just glanced at the Accuweather extended forecast and they predict no measurable snow events for the next six weeks except one on Feb. 10, which actually looks like it could easily be a rain event.

Of course weather forecasts are always imbedded with a caveat.

(My favorite is "We could get 3-6 inches or up to a foot or more, or just a dusting depending on the track. Gee thanks, for helping me plan my day!)

But if the winter turns out as serene as they predict, don't you think we deserve it? After last year?

Now look at the price of heating oil. Gasoline.

If you still need some more good news, and warmer weather for a few days, flights are cheap as hell thanks to low prices airlines are paying for jet fuel. You can fly from Portsmouth to Fort Lauderdale for about 60 bucks on Allegiant.

That should warm the cockles of your heart. Idiom alert: Not exactly sure what cockles are.

However, if the Pats trash the Broncos today - or even beat them by a single point - I can say with no trepidation that Patriots fans' cockles all over New England will definitely be glowing.
