Pair nabbed on drug charges after woman shoves officer trying to catch roomie

ROCHESTER - Rochester Police arrested a pair of Walnut Street residents after a man thought to have several warrants fled from an officer and a female accompanying the male shoved the officer when he went to pursue the suspect.

The incident unfolded around 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday when the officer saw Tyler M. Canney, 26, of 7 Walnut St., Apt. A, walking on Lafayette Street. The officer confirmed the warrants and stopped to speak with Canney, who took off running.

As the officer began a foot pursuit, police say Chantell Marie Tibbetts, 33, also of the same Walnut Street address, shoved him in an attempt to aid Canney's escape.

Canney ultimately was taken into custody in the area of 1 Walnut St.

He was charged with felony heroin possession, resisting arrest, plus capias warrants out of Strafford and Rockingham counties and bench warrants out of Rochester and Exeter district courts.

Tibbetts was charged with felony heroin possession, hindering apprehension, simple assault on a law officer, and bench warrants out of Hampton and Exeter district courts.

Both were arraigned on Wednesday.
