ROCHESTER - Paul Donald Saladino, 83, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at his home in Rochester, N.H.
He was born in Woodsville, N.H. on August 8, 1932, the son of Peter Joseph and Nellie (Lange) Saladino. He graduated from Bradford Academy in 1951, where he charmed fellow students and the faculty with his humor, athletic prowess and acting skills. He attended Keene Teachers College from 1951 to 1953 at which time he left to enlist in the Army in which he served for many years achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was also a National Guard Company Commander and was immensely proud of his dedication to his country.
He lived for many years in Fairlee, Vt., where he raised four children with his late wife Hilda (White) Saladino. He was a well-loved community volunteer and member of local clubs including the Fairlee Baldtopper Snowmobile Club, the Fairlee Fireman Follies, Fourth of July Fireworks and the community softball team. He worked at the family-owned Saladino Garage and was a longtime employee of Combined Insurance Company of America. He was active in the Fairlee town government serving as a town selectman, moderator and part of the budget committee.
The second chapter of Paul's life began when he married Jean Waterhouse Edgerly Saladino in 1988. Their years together were full of love and laughter. They divided their time between their homes in Rochester, N.H. and Sarasota, Fla. surrounded by family and friends. Paul was very close to his father-in-law, Grover C. Waterhouse and his wife's extended family. Paul and Jean spent many weekends at horse shows and races; traveling to watch grandchildren participate in sports and activities; and volunteering at Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Paul was at his happiest cooking delicious meals for large groups of people; working in the yard at either of his homes; having 3 o'clock coffee with special friends at Jane's on Bow Lake; spending time with beloved Golden Retrievers Ben and Tash; and playing cribbage on the porch as the sun set. Paul will always be remembered as a man who was generous with his time, humor and kindness.
Survivors include his wife Jean; daughter Bridgette Saladino-Winters and her children Jon Frederick McDonald Jr. and Robyn Janet McDonald; daughter Brooke Saladino-Balch, her husband John and sons Lincoln Paul and Vincent Roy; stepdaughters Mary Beth Edgerly, Carrie Edgerly MacLeod, Jane Edgerly Stowell and their families including seven grandchildren, four great-children, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
